Background

Longbridge, on the site of the former iconic MG Rover car factory, has been extensively regenerated with homes, retail, education and green spaces.

West Works is a ‘desirable mixed-use development with beautiful green spaces and sustainable transport links’, all close to Longbridge Town Centre.

This St Modwen site is split into two halves, one part for traditional dual-fuel houses, the other for next-generation, all-electric, low-carbon homes on the SNRG SmartGrid.

Solution

The SNRG SmartGrid will provide power to 215 all-electric homes, including 112 EPC A-rated houses and 103 apartments, across three blocks.

There will also be 189 electric vehicle (EV) chargers provided for homes with parking spaces – including apartments.

SNRG will provide funding for up to 710kWp of roof mounted solar PV, across all 215 homes which will be connected to  up to 1MWh of communal battery energy storage, also funded by SNRG.

Results

Residents living in homes connected to the West Works SmartGrid will save at least 15% on their electricity bills, and enjoy lifetime protection against volatile energy prices.

A unique feature of the SNRG SmartGrid is to allow those without a driveway to have their EV charging included on their household electricity bill provided by SNRG. This will potentially save residents without a driveway, but with an on-premises EV charger, thousands of pounds a year compared to public EV charging prices.

The first showhomes are complete and the full development will be finished in 2028.
